Outbound for Performance Marketing Agencies: Cold Email and LinkedIn Systems That Book Meetings

Performance marketing and media buying agencies have an odd problem. You can generate demand for clients all day, but your own pipeline runs on referrals and the occasional inbound lead. When a big account churns, there is nothing behind it. Outbound fixes that, because it is the one channel where you control the volume.

Here is the outbound system we see working for performance agencies: tight targeting, a sending setup that reaches the inbox, offers built around the prospect's ad account, LinkedIn alongside email, and a meeting-setting process that turns replies into calls.

Pick Prospects You Can Prove You Can Help

Performance agencies have an advantage most service businesses do not: you can see a prospect's marketing before you contact them. Use it.

  • Pick one vertical and one spend band. For example, DTC brands running dozens of active Meta ads, or home service companies running Google Ads across several metros. A narrow list lets you write specific emails.
  • Check the Meta Ad Library. Count active ads, how long they have run and how many variations exist. A brand running the same three creatives for four months needs creative help.
  • Look for buying signals. Hiring for a paid media role, a product launch, a funding round, a new head of growth, or an in-house team that just lost its media buyer.
  • Find the right person. The founder or CEO at smaller companies. The head of growth, performance marketing lead or CMO at larger ones.

Set Up Cold Email So It Lands

Volume only matters if it reaches the inbox.

  • Secondary domains. Never send cold email from your main domain. Buy several close variations of it and redirect them to your site.
  • Two to three inboxes per domain, each sending roughly 30 to 50 emails a day once warmed.
  • Authentication. SPF, DKIM and DMARC on every domain. Gmail and Yahoo enforce these for bulk senders, along with low spam complaint rates and easy unsubscribes.
  • Warm up for two to three weeks before sending campaigns, and keep warmup running in the background.
  • Verify every address before it enters a sequence, and keep bounce rates low.
  • Follow the law. Include your business address and an opt-out in every email to meet CAN-SPAM, and respect stricter rules such as CASL when emailing Canadian prospects.

The math is simple. Ten domains with three inboxes each at 40 emails a day is about 1,200 emails a day. At that scale, meetings stop depending on luck. Matt Blanco at IVG Media says that with our Dealflow program they bring in a dozen meetings a week, with hundreds of outreach messages going out every day to produce a constant inflow of meetings, and that sales have increased.

Lead With an Offer Built Around Their Ad Account

"We help brands scale with paid ads" gets ignored because every agency says it. Specific, low-risk offers get replies:

  • A creative teardown. "I looked at your 14 active Meta ads. Three have been running since spring. Want a 5 minute video on what I would test next?"
  • An account audit. A free review of their Google or Meta account, walked through on a call.
  • A test sprint. A fixed-scope, 30 day creative or campaign test with an agreed success metric, before any retainer.
  • A benchmark. "Here is how your ad volume and formats compare with five competitors in your category."

Keep emails under 90 words: one observation, one offer, one question. Follow up three or four times over two weeks, and make each follow-up add something new, such as a relevant result or a short screen recording.

Run LinkedIn Alongside Email

LinkedIn adds a second touch from a real person. For each prospect in the email sequence:

  1. View their profile and follow their company the day the first email goes out.
  2. Send a connection request with no pitch.
  3. When they accept, send a short message tied to something they posted or to the teardown offer.
  4. Engage with their posts during the sequence so your name is familiar when the next email lands.

Stay inside LinkedIn's weekly connection limits on each profile. Running the sequence from two or three team members' profiles in parallel increases reach without putting any one account at risk. A founder who posts a weekly breakdown of a winning ad gives every prospect a reason to accept.

Turn Replies Into Booked Meetings

Most agencies lose meetings after the reply. Someone answers "sure, send more info" and gets a long email two days later.

  • Reply within an hour during business hours, and make one person own the inbox.
  • Offer two specific times and a calendar link in the same reply.
  • Send the teardown or audit before the call so the prospect shows up curious.
  • Confirm by email and text, with a reminder the morning of the call.
  • Add setters as volume grows. A dedicated appointment setter handling replies frees your closer to run calls.

Jimmy Tuma at Hyperwave Media and Works describes the Dealflow academy as an overhaul of the sales process: a higher close rate, more offshore sales reps and scaling up quickly.

Track the Numbers That Predict Revenue

  • Emails sent per day and inbox placement.
  • Reply rate and positive reply rate.
  • LinkedIn acceptance and reply rates.
  • Meetings booked per week and show rate.
  • Proposals sent, close rate and new monthly retainer value.

If positive replies are low, fix the list or the offer. If replies are fine but meetings do not book, fix your speed and the handoff. If meetings happen but do not close, fix the pitch and the proposal.

None of this is glamorous. Domains, inbox counts and follow-up timing are the parts most people skip. Baron Belalov at Strawberry Media said they were impressed that the Dealflow blueprint covers the things other people will not talk about.
