Most pay-per-lead businesses are good at making leads and weak at selling them. If you can generate supply but do not have enough buyers, you eat the cost of every unsold lead. If you depend on one or two buyers, one bad month on their side becomes your problem.
Winning buyers is its own sales job, separate from running ads. Here is a system for finding buyers, getting them to test, and keeping them ordering.
"Anyone who buys leads" is not a target. Pick a vertical and describe the buyer who will get the most from your supply:
Serious buyers ask the same questions every time. Answer them in a one-page spec sheet before the first call:
A clear spec sheet shortens the sales cycle and cuts disputes later, because both sides agreed on what a good lead is before money changed hands.
Your best prospects are already paying for customers somewhere. Look for them:
Then reach out by cold email and LinkedIn with a short, specific message: "We generate exclusive, phone-verified [vertical] leads in [state]. Want to test 20 at a reduced price this month?" Follow up three or four times over two weeks, and call the prospects who open or reply.
Volume of conversations is what moves this. Eric Mellores of LeadCarrot booked 10 calls and closed 3 new customers in 8 days. Adolfo Fernandes of FunnelChiefs put it this way: watch the first 6 modules of the program and you will book 6 calls within the first 72 hours.
Asking a new buyer for a big monthly commitment slows everything down. A pilot gets them in the door:
The check-ins matter more than most sellers think. When a pilot fails, the cause is often slow follow-up on the buyer's side. Coaching them on speed to lead protects your reputation and keeps the account.
Buyers who only look at price per lead will always find someone cheaper. Walk them through cost per customer instead. Here is an illustration with example numbers: a $60 lead, a 70% contact rate, 30% of contacts booking an appointment and 25% of appointments closing works out to roughly $1,140 per new customer. If their average customer is worth $5,000, the order makes sense even though the lead price looks high.
Put a simple calculator like this on your sales page and in your proposals, and fill it in with the buyer's own close rate and customer value on the first call. It moves the conversation from "your leads are expensive" to "how many can you send me."
Buyers also search. Build pages for terms like "buy [vertical] leads", "exclusive [vertical] leads" and "[vertical] lead generation company." On each page, show a sample lead with dummy data, the states you cover, your returns policy, and a short form that asks for vertical, geography, monthly volume wanted and who handles intake.
Post on LinkedIn about lead quality in your vertical: contact rates by hour, what a good intake script sounds like, why some leads get returned. That content brings buyers to you. Moe Abdul of Verified Marketing recommends the program to anyone in the service industry looking to grow their inbound leads.
Margin in this business comes from buyers who stay. To keep them:
If sell-through is low, you need more buyers or tighter caps on supply. If returns are high with one buyer and low with others, the problem is probably their intake. If returns are high everywhere, look at your traffic sources and your form.
Our cold email and LinkedIn outreach service finds and books calls with lead buyers in your vertical: list building, sending domains and inbox warmup, copy, LinkedIn sequences and reply handling. You get a dedicated campaign manager and weekly reporting on replies, calls booked and pilots started.
